Montgomery County hurricane guide¶
The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (MCOHSEM), in Conroe, leads the county's planning for and response to disasters, working with the County Judge and the Houston-Galveston Area Council region. The county is inland, but hurricanes and tropical storms can bring heavy rain, inland flooding along creeks and rivers, high winds, and tornadoes. Sign up for AlertMCTX, check the county floodplain map, and never drive through flooded roads.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.
What to know in Montgomery County¶
- During an emergency, the county's Emergency Response HUB shows road closures, weather alerts, and stream gauges in one place, and it can be translated into other languages.
- AlertMCTX calls landlines it already knows about, but cell phones and many internet phones must be registered to get alerts. During an alert, listen to the whole message and do not call 911 for more information unless told to.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Montgomery County does not publish a standing shelter list. During emergencies and disasters, the county's Aid Locator map shows open shelters, food distribution sites, and medical facilities, and AlertMCTX may announce shelters. Do not go to a site until officials announce it is open.
