San José de Ocoa hurricane guide

San José de Ocoa is a mountainous inland province in the south of the Dominican Republic. Its Defensa Civil provincial office is on Calle Manuela María Mañaná, across from the Red Cross, and the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) sets the alert level for each province. In storms the COE warns of sudden urban and rural flooding, rising rivers, streams, and ravines, and landslides, and in November 2023 a man died here when a bridge collapsed and a stream swept him away. The 9-1-1 emergency system is extended municipality by municipality, so check that it covers your area.
