El Seibo hurricane guide

El Seibo is a province in the east, with its capital in Santa Cruz de El Seibo and the coastal town of Miches. Defensa Civil's provincial office is in the town of El Seibo, and the national Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) issues alert levels for the province. The government declared an emergency in El Seibo after Hurricane Fiona in 2022. Follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements for each storm.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Defensa Civil's 2020 national shelter inventory lists 71 validated shelters in El Seibo, mostly schools, community centers, and churches. It is a planning list, not a list of open shelters. A shelter is open only when officials announce it, so follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements before you go.
