Chaguanas hurricane guide¶
Chaguanas, between Port of Spain and San Fernando, is run by the Chaguanas Borough Corporation, which calls it the largest municipality and fastest growing town in Trinidad and Tobago. The corporation's Disaster Management Unit handles preparedness, response, and recovery in the borough, and it urges people in flood prone areas to keep sandbags on hand from June to November. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) leads national disaster response, and the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service issues the official weather alerts, so follow their announcements for each storm.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The Disaster Management Units of Trinidad's 14 municipal corporations supply the shelter locations on the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government's Trinidad Emergency Shelters map, last updated with 2025 locations. It is a planning list, not a list of open shelters. A shelter is open only when officials announce it, so call the Disaster Management Unit hotline or follow ODPM and corporation announcements before you go.
