Bahoruco hurricane guide

Bahoruco is an inland province in the southwest of the Dominican Republic, where the Defensa Civil provincial office leads local emergency response and the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) sets the alert level. Official sources checked on October 3, 2026 do not show the 9-1-1 emergency system in Bahoruco: in July 2026 the government said 27 provinces were part of 911 without naming them, so use the local fire, police, and health numbers below, which come from the town halls' own pages. In storms the COE warns of sudden urban and rural flooding, rising rivers, streams, and ravines, and landslides, so follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements for each storm.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Defensa Civil, Oficina Provincial Bahoruco. In a life threatening emergency, call 911 where the 9-1-1 system covers your area. If your area is not covered, use the local emergency numbers on this page.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Defensa Civil's national shelter inventory, validated in 2020, lists 15 shelters in Bahoruco with room for about 1,284 people. It is a planning list, not a list of open shelters, and it is several years old. A shelter is open only when officials announce it, so follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements or call the Defensa Civil provincial office before you go.
