Barahona hurricane guide

Barahona is a coastal province in the southwest, with its capital in Santa Cruz de Barahona. Defensa Civil's Barahona office is your local emergency contact. Coastal neighborhoods face high waves and flooding, rivers and streams can rise fast, and mountain communities are at risk of landslides. The Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) issues alerts by province, so follow its announcements for each storm.

Defensa Civil's national inventory of validated shelters, published in 2020, lists 40 shelters in Barahona. Defensa Civil links it from its website as the Listado Nacional de Albergues.
