Diego Martin hurricane guide¶
The Diego Martin Borough Corporation covers northwest Trinidad, from the Chaguaramas peninsula to the Northern Range valleys next to Port of Spain. It was a regional corporation until it became a borough in 2023. Its Disaster Management Unit (DMU) works with first responders after floods, landslides, and other hazards, and runs the Municipal Emergency Operations Centre when it is activated.

What to know in Diego Martin¶
- Heavy rain can cause landslides in the borough. On June 29, 2025, the DMU reported a landslide at Fort George that blocked the road until crews cleared it.
- In June 2025, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said sandbags were available for collection at every corporation's DMU. For Diego Martin the pickup point was #2-3 Orchid Drive, Petit Valley. Call the DMU hotline to ask whether sandbags are available before a storm.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Emergency shelters in Trinidad open only after the corporation's CEO issues an official activation order, and each building is inspected and stocked first. Do not go to a shelter until it is announced as open. The DMU page has a map of shelter locations in the borough for planning only. If you go to a shelter, bring food and water, your medicines, a first aid kit, ID and important papers, toiletries, a change of clothes, blankets, and a battery radio and flashlight.
