Fiji cyclone guide

Fiji is hit by tropical cyclones, and the Fiji Meteorological Service runs the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Nadi, which WMO designated in 1995 as the official first-level source of tropical cyclone information for the South-West Pacific Ocean. Fire and ambulance calls go to the National Fire Authority on 910, and Energy Fiji Limited takes power emergencies on 913. We could not load an official national disaster office page, so this page lists only the services we could confirm. Fiji is on this one page.

Checked on October 10, 2026

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from the Fiji Meteorological Service (RSMC Nadi) for cyclone information. In an emergency, call 917 for the police or 910 for fire and ambulance. 911 is also listed as a general emergency number.

What to know in Fiji

  • Energy Fiji Limited says that during a cyclone you should not go outside, even if the storm seems to have passed, because the calm eye of the storm can pass quickly and strong winds can return.
  • Energy Fiji Limited says to treat all downed, damaged, or loose power lines as live and to report them on 913 or to the relevant authorities.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

We could not load an official national list of evacuation centres. Energy Fiji Limited says to evacuate to a shelter or a neighbor's home if your home is damaged or if emergency personnel tell you to. Do not assume any place is open. Follow official announcements.

Radio, TV and weather

Keep a battery or hand crank radio. When power and cell service fail, radio is often the only way to hear official updates.
