Odisha cyclone guide

Odisha has a long Bay of Bengal coast and a delta where several large rivers meet the sea, and it is one of the Indian states most often struck by cyclones. The Special Relief Commissioner runs the State Emergency Operations Centre in Bhubaneswar, and the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) builds shelters and runs early warning systems. Coastal districts face cyclone wind, storm surge, and flooding. Follow warnings from the India Meteorological Department and instructions from the state and district collectors.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

OSDMA runs a shelter locations page where you can search multipurpose cyclone and flood shelters by district and block. Shelters are open only when officials announce it. Learn your nearest shelter and the route before a storm, and follow instructions from your district collector and local officials.
