La Romana hurricane guide

La Romana is a coastal province on the southeast Caribbean coast, with three municipalities: La Romana, Villa Hermosa, and Guaymate. Defensa Civil's provincial office is in the city of La Romana, behind the fire station, and the national Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) issues alert levels for the province. The government declared an emergency in La Romana after Hurricane Fiona in 2022. Follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements for each storm.

Defensa Civil's 2020 national shelter inventory lists 25 validated shelters in La Romana, mostly churches and schools, with room for about 2,350 people. It is a planning list, not a list of open shelters. A shelter is open only when officials announce it, so follow COE and Defensa Civil announcements before you go.
