Point Fortin hurricane guide¶
Point Fortin is a borough on the southwest peninsula of Trinidad, run by the Point Fortin Borough Corporation. The corporation's Disaster Management Unit (DMU) is the first responder for local emergencies such as flooding, landslides, and fires, and it runs the borough's emergency shelters. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) leads national disaster response, and the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service issues the official weather alerts, so follow their announcements for each storm.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The Point Fortin Borough Corporation publishes a list of designated emergency shelters, shown below for planning only. A shelter opens only after the Emergency Operations Centre approves it, and the DMU announces open shelters for each event. Call the DMU hotline at 800-7322 for current open locations before you go. The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government's Trinidad Emergency Shelters map also shows shelter locations.
