Quebec hurricane guide¶
Civil security in Quebec (Sécurité civile) is handled by the Ministère de la Sécurité intérieure, whose Centre des opérations gouvernementales takes civil security emergency reports around the clock. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. Full hurricanes are rare in Quebec and generally arrive as post-tropical storms. Communities in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Côte-Nord, Gaspésie and the Îles-de-la-Madeleine are particularly vulnerable to storm surge and shoreline flooding.

What to know in Quebec¶
- When a hurricane or post-tropical storm warning is issued, take shelter. Hurricane warnings usually affect coastal areas, and other regions are more likely to receive post-tropical storm warnings.
- If you received an evacuation notice, return home only after the responsible authorities authorize it. Never approach a downed power line and call 911 immediately.
