Yucatán hurricane guide¶
Yucatán is a low, flat state on the northern Yucatán Peninsula, with a long Gulf coast. The Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil (PROCIVY) is the state civil protection office and publishes tropical cyclone bulletins, alert levels, and shelter information. The coast and low lying areas are exposed to cyclone wind, storm surge, and heavy rain. Follow the warnings of the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional and the instructions of state and municipal Protección Civil.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Yucatán describes temporary shelters (refugios temporales) as places that give lodging, food, and medical help to displaced people. In September 2026 the state reported 31 state shelters and 1,238 municipal shelters verified, and 79 schools ready to serve as shelters. A shelter is open only when officials announce it. At the yellow alert level the state advises you to find the nearest shelter and the route to it. Follow PROCIVY and municipal announcements.
