Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) typhoon guide

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has its own regional government, with offices in Cotabato City. It includes the provinces of Basilan (outside Isabela City), Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Tawi-Tawi, and the Bangsamoro government site lists its local government units. Disaster response here is coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, which a Bangsamoro government page says manages the READI-BARMM operations center. PAGASA issues the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals and storm surge information. Follow PAGASA bulletins and your city or municipal disaster risk reduction and management office.

Always follow instructions from the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the Bangsamoro government, which manages the READI-BARMM disaster operations center, with the Bangsamoro Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRMC). What to know in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)

  • PAGASA says storm surge is an abnormal rise in sea level during a tropical cyclone, and that it is more dangerous when it arrives on top of a high tide. It says the way to reduce its effects is to check for weather updates, prepare early, and evacuate to high ground when a mandatory evacuation is called.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

PAGASA advises people in storm surge prone areas to know which concrete reinforced multi-story buildings the local government has designated for evacuation, to arrange to stay with family or friends on higher ground, and to prepare to evacuate as soon as the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council or barangay officials advise it. Ask your city or municipal disaster office which evacuation centres serve your barangay. Evacuation centres are announced by local officials, so follow their alerts.
