Myanmar cyclone guide¶
Disaster response in Myanmar is run by the Department of Disaster Management, and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issues weather and storm warnings, mostly in Burmese. Official websites in Myanmar can be slow, can fail to load from outside the country, and some pages are old, so this page lists only what loaded and was confirmed. Check the date on anything you read, and follow local authorities. Myanmar is on this one page.
Checked on October 10, 2026
Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from the Department of Disaster Management. For a fire, call 191; this guide could not confirm a national police or ambulance number on an official page.
What to know in Myanmar¶
- The Department of Disaster Management says its aims are to help people hit by natural disasters with immediate food and shelter, and to plan ahead to reduce loss of life, homes, and property.
- The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology publishes numbered storm warnings in Burmese on its cyclone warning page. Check the date and time on each one.
- The Department of Disaster Management's website carries a Ministry of Health bulletin on the response to Cyclone Mocha in states and regions, for the reporting period 1 to 14 June 2023. This is a past event.
- The Department's contact page lists its offices as of December 2019, so its phone numbers may be out of date. Official Myanmar sites are not always reachable, so a number that does not answer may have changed.

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
No list of cyclone shelters was found on the official pages that loaded, so none is shown here. Follow your local authorities and the Department of Disaster Management for where to go.
Radio, TV and weather¶
Keep a battery or hand crank radio. When power and cell service fail, radio is often the only way to hear official updates.
