The national disaster agency, the Bureau National de Gestion des Risques et des Catastrophes (BNGRC), and the Direction générale de la météorologie held a workshop in Farafangana on 24 and 25 September 2026 to build an impact based forecast and warning system, and chose Atsimo-Atsinanana as one of two pilot regions. What to know in Atsimo-Atsinanana¶
- BNGRC said that its workshop in Farafangana on 24 and 25 September 2026, held with the Direction générale de la météorologie (DGM), co-built an impact based forecasting and warning system (IBFW), and that Atsimo-Atsinanana was retained as one of two pilot regions for it.
- In a national meeting with the prefectures held on 9 December (2025), BNGRC recommended more vigilance in areas exposed to rising water, naming the regions Diana, Sofia, Boeny, Vatovavy, Fitovinany, Sava, and Atsimo-Atsinanana. This was advice for that rainy season and a past event.
- BNGRC and partners held a workshop at Vangaindrano on 3, 4, 5, and 8 September 2025 to strengthen communal risk and disaster management committees in the southeast before the next cyclone season.
