Hempstead hurricane guide

The Town of Hempstead says many residents live along its shoreline and must prepare for strong coastal storms, and that Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy remain a vivid memory for many. When a hurricane or major coastal storm heads toward the town, its Department of Public Safety activates an Emergency Management Office to coordinate the town's work. For evacuation zones and shelter announcements, use the Nassau County page.
