What to know in Spring Lake

  • The borough says some areas are mapped as a special flood hazard area and that oceanfront properties are vulnerable to storm damage during severe northeasters and hurricane conditions. Flooding can come with little warning, and the dunes are the first line of defense. Other flood prone areas border Wreck Pond, Spring Lake, and Lake Como. Standard homeowner's insurance does not cover flood losses.
  • The borough's Office of Emergency Management asks families to know their home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding, and wind, to find the safest areas for each hazard, and to plan escape routes. It says the safest place may be within your community rather than your home. The borough has an emergency siren with a loudspeaker near the public works yard.
