Brisbane City Council cyclone guide¶
Brisbane City Council says Brisbane experiences floods, bushfires and severe storms, and that the council coordinates other organisations in responding to disasters in the Brisbane Local Government Area. It runs an emergency dashboard and the Brisbane Severe Weather Alert service, which can cover destructive winds and cyclones. For life threatening emergencies call 000, and for help in a storm or flood call the State Emergency Service on 132 500.

Always follow instructions from Brisbane City Council and the Brisbane Local Disaster Management Group. In a life threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
What to know in Brisbane City Council¶
- The council says your first and best option if you have to evacuate is to stay with family or friends, and that a place of refuge or evacuation centre can be used if you have no other shelter alternatives.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The council describes a place of refuge as basic shelter for people who need to evacuate immediately before a disaster, usually a cyclone, and an evacuation centre as temporary accommodation, food and water. It says the Local Disaster Management Group decides whether to open either and communicates it through various channels, and that the emergency dashboard shows any that are open. Do not assume any is open.
