Boone County hurricane guide¶
Boone County Emergency Management is the county's local emergency management agency. Boone County is in the steep coalfield hills, so heavy rain, including rain from the remains of tropical storms, can bring flash flooding along the Coal and Little Coal rivers and their creeks, and landslides. The county's own website did not load emergency pages when we checked, so the state list is the source of the number below.
Checked on October 9, 2026
Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Boone County Emergency Management. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.
Emergency and information numbers¶
| Service | Number | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency | 911 | Police, fire, and ambulance. Call only when someone's life or property is in danger. |
| Emergency management office | 304-369-9913 | Boone County Emergency Management and 911 center non-emergency line from the state list of local emergency management contacts. Not for emergencies. |

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Boone County does not publish a standing list of storm shelters that we could confirm. Shelters open only when officials announce them, so do not go to a site until it is announced as open. Check county alerts and local news for announcements.
Cities and towns¶
Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
