City of Lynchburg hurricane guide

The Lynchburg Fire Department houses the city's Emergency Management Program and runs the city Emergency Operations Center. The city sends Lynchburg Alerts through Everbridge for severe weather, road closures, and evacuations. The city's flood safety page says flash floods can come with no warning, and tells people never to walk, swim, or drive through flood water.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The city pages checked do not publish a standing list of shelters. If shelters are opened, the city announces them through its alerts. Do not go to a site until it is announced as open.
