Henrico County hurricane guide¶
Henrico County Emergency Management promotes disaster preparedness for the community and the county government, and maintains the county's Emergency Operations Plan and Community Preparedness Guide. Henrico is inland, so tropical systems reach it as heavy rain, flooding, wind, and power outages. The county's Henrico Alert system is only for life-safety emergencies, not weather information.

Official alerts and information¶
- Henrico Alert: Free alerts by text, email, or phone. Sign up before a storm. The county says it uses this system only for life-safety emergencies, not for weather information. Website.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The county pages I reviewed do not list shelters. The county says to stay informed through Henrico Alert, NOAA Weather Radio, and county social media. Check the county website for storm-specific shelter and evacuation announcements.
