Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Campbell County's Emergency Operations Plan names Yellow Branch Elementary School as the primary emergency shelter, at the intersection of Route 24 and Route 29. Other schools or buildings may be opened instead of or in addition to it, and the county says shelter openings and locations may change with the situation. Shelters open only when announced, so do not go to one until the county or CodeRED says so. The American Red Cross partners with the county to provide shelter amenities. Many shelters do not allow animals, so plan for your pets or call Campbell County Animal Care and Control at 434-821-4416 about sheltering options.
