Potter County hurricane guide

The Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management (OEM) runs emergency management for Potter County, the City of Amarillo, and the City of Canyon. The county is inland, far from the Gulf coast, but the remains of a tropical storm can still bring heavy rain and flash flooding. An OEM Duty Officer is available 24 hours a day to help coordinate during emergencies. For emergencies call 911.

The Amarillo Area OEM does not publish a list of shelters on its page. In an emergency, check AMAalerts and call OEM to ask about shelter, and do not go to a building unless officials say it is open.

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
