Memphis hurricane guide

Memphis is the Hall County seat in the Texas Panhandle, far inland from the Gulf of Mexico. The city's own pages cover local severe weather, such as storm sirens and a list of home storm shelters, and do not describe a hurricane threat. For county emergency management, sheriff, shelters, and alerts, see the Hall County page.

What to know in Memphis

  • The Memphis Volunteer Fire Department tests the city's storm sirens on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.
  • The city asks residents who have a storm shelter or basement to contact City Hall or the Fire Department so it is on record for first responders in bad weather. This is a record for responders, not a public shelter.
