What to know in Texas City¶
- Texas City's 11 outdoor sirens cover Texas City and La Marque for tornadoes and chemical or industrial emergencies. A rising and falling sound means go indoors, close windows and doors, turn off the air conditioning, and watch your phone for alerts. A steady tone means all clear. Sirens are tested every Wednesday at noon.
- If you evacuate, wait to return until local authorities recommend or authorize it. Use stored water or boil water before drinking until officials say the water is safe.
- The Texas City Hurricane Flood Protection Levee protects about 36 square miles of the Texas City, La Marque, and Hitchcock area from a storm surge of up to 15 feet, according to the City of La Marque.
