Erie County hurricane guide¶
The Erie County Department of Public Safety in Erie provides 9-1-1 communications and emergency management coordination. Erie County sits on Lake Erie but is far from the Atlantic coast, so the remains of tropical storms are mainly a flash flood, stream flood, and wind risk. Sign up for the county emergency alert system before a storm.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Erie County Department of Public Safety. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.
What to know in Erie County¶
- Erie County asks residents to report disaster damage to their city, township, or borough, not to county emergency management. Municipal officials can connect you with your local emergency management coordinator, and for a list of coordinators you can contact the Department of Public Safety.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The Erie County emergency management pages that were checked do not list standing shelters for floods or storms. Shelters are announced when an emergency happens, so do not go to a site until the county announces it. Follow county alerts and local news, and call the Department of Public Safety if you need help.
