Cumberland County hurricane guide¶
The Cumberland County Department of Public Safety in Carlisle operates the 9-1-1 center and provides emergency management planning for municipalities, businesses, and residents. Cumberland County is inland, so the remains of tropical storms are mainly a flash flood and stream flood risk. The county publishes shelter and preparedness guidance, and its Alert Center lists current alerts.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Cumberland County says shelters are normally set up in public schools, recreation centers, or other appropriate facilities. People who need shelter are asked to bring a change of clothing, bathing and sanitary supplies, prescriptions and other medical needs, denture and eye care materials, and special dietary supplies. With the exception of service animals, pets are generally not permitted in shelters. The county does not publish a standing list, so do not go to a site until the county announces it.
