Warren County hurricane guide

The Emergency Management Division of Warren County Emergency Services plans for and coordinates the response to disasters in the county, from its office at 890 US Highway 158 Bypass in Warrenton. Warren County is inland and has no storm surge evacuation zones, so heavy rain, flash flooding, high winds, and falling trees are the main hurricane dangers. The county does not post shelter information ahead of time, so call Emergency Services when a storm threatens.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Warren County does not publish a standing list of hurricane shelters. When a storm threatens, call Emergency Services at 252-257-1191 to ask about open shelters. The county's animal control office warns that people shelters do not accept pets, so plan ahead for your pets and leave early if you are told to.
