Halifax County hurricane guide

Halifax County Emergency Services runs emergency management, the countywide 911 system, and EMS. Halifax is inland, so the main hurricane dangers are flooding along rivers and creeks, strong wind, and falling trees. Sign up for the county's Nixle alerts before a storm, and follow Emergency Services for evacuation and shelter announcements.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Halifax County does not publish a standing list of hurricane shelters. If shelters open for a storm, Halifax County Emergency Services will announce them. Do not go to a shelter until officials say it is open, and watch the county's alerts for updates.
