Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Onondaga County does not publish a standing list of shelters on the pages we checked, so do not assume any location will be open. Check the county emergency advisories page and NY-Alert for instructions during an emergency. The county says that in a disaster the resources people rely on may not be available, and advises gathering enough supplies to support your household for at least three days. It also advises registering your cell phone with 911 and signing up for NY-Alert.
