Delaware County hurricane guide

Delaware County Emergency Services, in Delhi, is the county office that prepares for, responds to, and helps the county recover from emergencies. The county's disaster preparedness page says that residents of Delaware County can suddenly find themselves in the middle of a disaster, and tells people to look at risks where they live, such as flooding in a low lying area. The county asks residents to plan ahead, because pets are not normally allowed in public shelters.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Delaware County does not publish a standing list of storm shelters on the pages we checked. The county says pets are not normally allowed in public shelters, so plan in advance where you can take your pet if you must leave. It also says to keep enough food and water for at least three days. For questions, call Emergency Services at 607-832-5600. Call 911 for emergencies.
