Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The county says that if you must evacuate, you should listen to a battery-powered radio for the location of emergency shelters and follow the instructions of local officials, and that animals are not allowed in public shelters, so make arrangements for pets. Nye County did not publish a list of shelters on the pages checked. Shelters open only when local officials announce them, so check county alerts or call 211.

Help to evacuate

  • Summer emergency preparedness guide (Nye County): The county's guide says summer emergency preparedness in Nevada desert areas means preparing for extreme heat, flash floods, and power outages, and that you should never drive through flooded areas. Website.
