Esmeralda County hurricane guide

The Esmeralda County Department of Emergency Management is run by a DEM Coordinator in Goldfield, and the Esmeralda County Fire District is a separate office. The remains of eastern Pacific storms can bring heavy rain and flash flooding to its washes and roads. The county's emergency management page lists contacts only, so use the state and National Weather Service flood guidance below and call the office with questions.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Esmeralda County did not publish shelter information on the pages checked. Shelters open only when local officials announce them, so call the county emergency management office at 775-277-0047 or call 211 to find out about a shelter near you. If officials tell you to evacuate, leave right away.

Help to evacuate

  • Flood safety (Nevada Office of Emergency Management): State guidance. Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Just six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away. Never drive around barricades. Website.
