Hattiesburg is the largest city in Forrest County, inland with no hurricane evacuation zones. Tropical storms can still bring heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, tornadoes, and power outages. The city has its own police and fire departments and runs the city water, sewer, and garbage service.

What to know in Hattiesburg¶
- The city says roughly 25 percent of Hattiesburg property is in a special flood hazard area, and several areas outside it flood quickly in intense rain. Check your flood risk and flood insurance before storm season.
- Property owners must keep drainage on their own property clear and must not dump anything into creeks. Report blocked drainage to the City Action Line at 601-545-4500.
