Chicopee hurricane guide

Chicopee is an inland city on the Connecticut River. Its Emergency Management Department plans for disasters that the city says could include a hurricane or tornado, and its Department of Public Works handles storm drains and flood control. Heavy rain and wind from the remains of a tropical storm are the usual concern, so see the Hampden County page for state guidance and call the city for local shelter and alert information.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The city's emergency management page says volunteers help open a shelter in a disaster, but it lists no shelter sites. Shelters open only when officials announce them, so check city alerts before going anywhere.
