Bristol County hurricane guide

Massachusetts counties have no county emergency management. Each city and town has its own emergency management director, and MEMA's regional offices support them. Know Your Zone shows hurricane evacuation zones for coastal communities and communities on tidal rivers, and officials order evacuations. For shelters and alerts, contact your city or town.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Local emergency management directors, with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). In a life threatening emergency, call 911.

Evacuation zones

Use MEMA's Know Your Zone map to find your zone by community. Zones A and B may flood first from storm surge, and Zone A floods before Zone B. Evacuation orders come from your city or town and the state. The zones do not match hurricane categories.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Shelters open only when officials announce them, and your city or town or regional program decides. Call 2-1-1 or your town for shelter locations, and do not go to a site until it is announced as open.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
