Machias hurricane guide

Machias is a coastal town on the Machias River in Washington County, Downeast Maine. Tropical storms and their remains bring heavy rain, flooding along the river and low lying areas, coastal storm surge, and strong wind. The town has published notices about the town office closing because of past flooding, and its Code Enforcement page tells owners of waterfront and low lying property to review FEMA's preliminary flood plain maps at the town office. See the Washington County page for county emergency management and alerts.
