Orlando hurricane guide¶
Orlando is the largest city in Orange County, inland with no storm surge, but hurricanes bring high winds, tornadoes, and street flooding. The city has its own police and fire departments and runs sewer service, storm drains, and garbage and storm debris pickup. Some addresses that say Orlando are in unincorporated Orange County, so check whether you are inside city limits.

What to know in Orlando¶
- After a storm, sort debris into separate piles at the curb: bagged or bundled yard waste, large branches, construction debris, and appliances. Keep piles away from mailboxes, fire hydrants, storm drains, and utility poles. Debris behind fences, in driveways, or mixed with household garbage is not collected.
- Do not do major yard work before a named storm. If yard waste at the curb has not been picked up before the storm, store it against your home, because it can wash into storm drains and cause flooding.
- In past seasons the city's Streets and Stormwater Division has given out free sandbags at 1010 Woods Avenue, 10 per vehicle. Watch city news and social media for any distribution this year.
