Collier County hurricane guide

Collier County Emergency Management, part of the county's Bureau of Emergency Services, runs hurricane planning, evacuations, and public shelters for the county. Storm surge is the main danger along the Gulf coast, including Naples, Marco Island, and Everglades City. Look up your evacuation zone by address before a storm, and call Collier 311 for shelter updates during an event.

Checked on September 30, 2026

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Collier County Emergency Management. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.

What to know in Collier County

  • If you live on a private road or in a gated community, your homeowners association or road owner must file a Right of Entry form with the county every year. Without it, county debris contractors cannot enter to pick up storm debris.

Evacuation zones

Collier County has designated storm surge evacuation zones. Use the county's map to search your address and see whether you are in a zone. When officials order your zone to leave, go. If you can, stay with friends or family outside the zone instead of going to a shelter.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Shelters are a last resort. Only some of the county's potential shelters open for a given storm, depending on their risk, and the list below is for planning only: a school opens only when the county announces it. During an event, call Collier 311 for open shelters and their status. Expect limited space, no privacy, and possible power loss. No weapons, alcohol, or drugs. Service animals are allowed in every shelter, but pets are allowed only in pet-friendly shelters, in cages. Palmetto Ridge High School is the planned special needs shelter, but that can change.

Help to evacuate

  • Collier County Special Needs Registry: For people with medical or functional needs, such as oxygen, electricity for medical equipment, or help with daily activities, who have no other safe place to go. Register online or with the county's paper form in English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole. You must register again every year, and registering does not guarantee a shelter space. A caregiver is encouraged to come with you. People in nursing homes and assisted living facilities should not register. Phone: 239-252-3603. Website.
  • Help finding a shelter and transportation: The county lists this number for help finding shelters near you and for transportation support. Phone: 800-729-3413.
  • Pet-friendly shelters (Collier County Domestic Animal Services): Cats and dogs with a current Collier County rabies and license tag are pre-registered automatically. Locations are announced when the shelters open, first come, first served. You must stay with your pet and bring a solid crate, medicine, and at least three days of food and water. An adult 18 or older with photo ID must check in. Phone: 239-252-7387. Website.
