Bridgeport hurricane guide¶
Bridgeport has an Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security that runs the Ready Bridgeport education program, which covers hazards including hurricanes. The city offers an emergency notification sign up for weather and emergency alerts, and lists the school buildings it has identified as emergency shelters, to be used only when it directs people there.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Bridgeport has identified all Bridgeport Public School buildings as emergency shelters. All high schools are long-term shelters and all other schools are short-term. The city says to follow the directions of emergency management personnel when being evacuated, and that some shelters may be affected and closed. Do not go to any site until the city directs you there.
