Prairie County hurricane guide¶
The Prairie County Office of Emergency Management coordinates emergency response for Prairie County. The county is inland, so storm hazards come mainly as flash flooding, river flooding, and wind and heavy rain. The county pages checked do not publish county-specific evacuation or flood guidance, so call the emergency management office and watch county alerts and National Weather Service forecasts when heavy rain is expected.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Prairie County Office of Emergency Management. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
This county does not publish a standing list of shelters on the official pages checked. Shelters open only when the county announces them, so do not go to a site until it is announced. Call the county emergency management office or watch county alerts for current information.
Cities and towns¶
Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
