Navajo County hurricane guide

Navajo County Emergency Management (NCEM) works with both tribal and non-tribal lands and coordinates response and recovery with federal, state, tribal, and local partners. The county says Arizona is prone to flash flooding, which happens quickly in summer monsoon events and also in winter when a snow storm is followed by warmer rain. Moisture from distant tropical storms can add to that flash flood risk in washes and low roads.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Navajo County Emergency Management & Preparedness. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.

What to know in Navajo County

  • Typical homeowners insurance excludes floods, and flood insurance has a 30 day waiting period, so the county says to get it before a possible event.
  • For the latest information on an emergency event the county points to 311info.net.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The Navajo County pages checked do not publish a standing list of shelters. The Ready Navajo County alerts may include evacuation orders or shelter in place guidance. Watch those alerts and 311info.net, and do not go to a site until it is announced.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
