Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area hurricane guide¶
The Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area has no borough government. The State of Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) supports emergency response here, working with city governments and with tribal governments. Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC), the regional tribal nonprofit for Interior Alaska, has an Emergency Response Team that has supported villages during river flooding. This is an inland area along the Yukon, Koyukuk, and Tanana rivers, so the main flood danger is river flooding rather than ocean storm surge. State reports say the remnants of Typhoon Merbok in 2022 also flooded inland areas along the Yukon River.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, with city governments and Tanana Chiefs Conference. In a life threatening emergency, call 911.
What to know in Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area¶
- The state's September 2022 report on Typhoon Merbok says inland areas along the Yukon River also experienced flooding. This describes a past event.
- Tanana Chiefs Conference says its internal Emergency Response Team is made up of staff from across the organization and works to make sure Tribes have support when natural disasters occur in their community. TCC used it during the May 2023 flooding in Interior villages including Circle, Eagle, and Fort Yukon.

There is no standing list of shelters for this area. Shelters open only when officials announce them, and local city and tribal governments announce them for their own communities. If officials tell you to evacuate, leave right away.
