Lowndes County hurricane guide

The Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency in Hayneville handles disaster planning and response for the county. Lowndes County is inland, between Montgomery and Selma, and has no evacuation zones, but a tropical storm or the remains of a hurricane can bring flooding, tornadoes, and wind damage. Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Lowndes County does not publish a shelter list on its website. If shelters open for a storm, watch for Hyper-Reach alerts, or call the emergency management office to ask where they are.
