Misamis Oriental typhoon guide

Misamis Oriental is a province of Northern Mindanao on the Mindanao Sea. Cagayan de Oro, a highly urbanized city, sits within it and is covered by its own city government. The provincial government site was behind a bot check for scripts, so no provincial hotline or office name could be confirmed. Typhoon and tropical storm warnings come from PAGASA through its Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals. Follow PAGASA bulletins and your city or municipal disaster office.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental (the province's disaster risk reduction and management office could not be confirmed by exact name on an official page). In a life threatening emergency, call 911.

What to know in Misamis Oriental

  • Cagayan de Oro city government describes Tropical Storm Sendong (Washi) in December 2011, when heavy rain over the Cagayan de Oro watershed caused deadly flash floods, with at least 674 people dead and around 230,000 residents displaced. The same page lists floods in the city from Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) in December 2012, Vinta (Tembin) in December 2017, and Odette (Rai) in December 2021. These are past events.
  • PAGASA says storm surge becomes more dangerous when it arrives on top of a high tide, and advises people to prepare to evacuate as soon as the municipal disaster council or barangay officials advise it.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

PAGASA tells people to know the concrete, reinforced multi-story buildings their local government has designated for evacuation. Evacuation centres are announced by your municipal or city disaster office and barangay officials. This page does not list any as open.
