What to know in Ilocos Sur

  • The provincial government says that in the rainy season the province's rivers provide water for farming, but their swift flow in mountain areas can also create flooding risks.
  • PAGASA says the only way to reduce the effects of a storm surge is to check weather updates, prepare early, and evacuate to high ground when a mandatory evacuation is called.
  • On 11 July 2025 the provincial disaster office held a first One Ilocos Sur Disaster Resilience Fair at the Historical Bicentennial Park in Bantay, with students from DepEd Ilocos Sur and Vigan City schools.

PAGASA's storm surge page tells people in a storm surge prone area to identify the safest and quickest way to high ground and to prepare to evacuate as soon as their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council or barangay officials advise it. A shelter or evacuation center is open only when your local officials announce it.
