Shire of Carnarvon cyclone guide¶
The Shire of Carnarvon is in the Gascoyne region and includes Carnarvon and Coral Bay. The Shire works with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and co employs a Community Emergency Services Manager for fire, flood and cyclone events. It says cyclone season in the Gascoyne typically runs from 1 November to 30 April. The Shire office line is answered 24 hours a day. Check DFES, the Bureau of Meteorology and Emergency WA.

What to know in Shire of Carnarvon¶
- The Shire says the Minilya, Wooramel, Lyndon and Gascoyne rivers flood on average every ten years and that the 2010 to 2011 floods reached 7.9 metres. It also has a page on the 2026 ex Tropical Cyclone Narelle and flooding recovery, about a past event.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The Shire says evacuation centres may be opened during severe weather. It describes the Woolshed at the Carnarvon Civic Centre as normally used as the primary evacuation centre, and notes the Woolshed was under construction and may not be available. Other centres may be set up at local schools, PCYC facilities or the Carnarvon Festival Ground. The Department of Communities runs evacuation centres with emergency services and the Shire. Animals are not permitted. Centres open only when officials announce them. Check Emergency WA and the Shire.
