Whitsunday Regional Council cyclone guide¶
Whitsunday Regional Council runs a Disaster and Emergency section with a Whitsunday Disaster Dashboard, flood cameras, and prepare, respond and recovery pages. It publishes storm tide evacuation zone maps for the coastal strip of the Whitsunday region. It says residents and visitors are responsible for their own evacuation, and that the best option for most people is to shelter at home.

Every phone number and web address on this page was checked against official sources on that date. Details can change, especially during a storm. Always follow instructions from Whitsunday Regional Council. In a life threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

Evacuation zones¶
The council publishes Evacuation Maps (Storm Tide) for the coastal strip of the Whitsunday region, which it says is at risk of storm tide inundation. Evacuation Zones are mapped areas that show a level of risk to a property.
Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The council says the best option for most people in a tropical cyclone is to shelter in their homes, and that if you live in an evacuation zone or an older building in poor condition, or have special needs, you need to plan to shelter in a safer place. Do not assume any shelter is open. Check the council dashboard.
