Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council cyclone guide

Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council is based in Bamaga at the tip of Cape York. The council says the NPA Local Disaster Management Group works to reduce the impact of disasters and responds when they happen, and that its coastline is prone to coastal hazard impacts driven by tropical cyclones, storm events and trade winds. Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The council pages loaded do not list cyclone shelters or evacuation centres. Do not assume any shelter is open. Check council and state announcements and the council's Local Disaster Management Plan for how arrangements work.
